2025 North American Picardy Spaniel Census

-The population has grown from 28 dogs in 2018 to just over 400 dogs in 2025.

Disclaimers:

There is no breed warden nor official breed club in North America. Ric Plath of Castiron Kennels voluntarily conducts the annual census using information from the NAVHDA, TANGOR and LOF registries coupled with owner-supplied information. If you see an error, please email ricplath@gmail.com. We share census data with CEPPA, the official breed club in France, as well as with an individual in the Netherlands who is working on a global Picardy Spaniel database.

We have been using Excel, which is a two-dimensional file, for the census. It’s a bit clunky and creates some challenges, but it works for now. At some point in the near future we need to move to a database like Tenset, which is used by other breed clubs in North America as well as many zoos globally. This will allow us to track any health concerns as well as help breeders make better breeding decisions.

If you are interested in additional stats/rollups, please contact Ric.
