Castiron Cleo’s Dash call name Ziggy (Castiron Kennels D-Litter: Manny/Cleo) was whelped on 22Dec22 and lives in Texas. He is the first versatile hunting dog owned and trained by Mike. The best advice Mike has for anyone training a Picardy Spaniel is:
“Do your homework on training well before getting your Picardy.”
Reading Joan Bailey’s “How to Help Your Gundogs Train Themselves” and George DeCosta Jr.’s “Tips and Tales for Training Your Gundog” helped me quite a bit as the training philosophies match up well with the Picardy’s disposition. Reading and rereading them both books well before getting Ziggy helped me understand the concept of teaching Ziggy how to learn instead of just teaching him commands. It’s helped me bring out the best in Ziggy without using pressure.
